We just had our 32 week check up with our fantastic doctor. The baby's face was buried in "all cord and not much amniotic fluid", as the good doctor said. So, once again, we don't have an ultrasound picture for you all. So here's a picture of Darius and I in the doctor's office instead. Oh well! The good news is that our precious baby boy is doing great. The doctor said there are no problems, and the baby is fully developed and is now just maturing. In other words, he's putting on the poundage, which means Mom is also putting on the poundage! I gained a surprising 5 pounds in the last 3 weeks, which the doctor assures me is fine even though the average weight gain is only 1 pound per week. Again....oh well! If we keep growing at this rate, we'll be as big as a house. But you'll all still love me then won't you? We have only 8 short weeks until the baby is born....or now it's actually 7 and a half. Sheesh! We've been taking a child birthing class, which has been very informative but not all that comforting as far as my expectation of the pain of childbearing goes. All I have to say to those people who ask me about my birth plan is...."Bring on the drugs!" Forget the shmancy birthing ball and natural blah blah blegh! I'm not ashamed to say that I am totally scared of going au naturale. But hats off to those ladies who walk into that seemingly nightmarish experience knowing the pain they are sure to face. "They" say that you forget all the pain the moment you see your baby's face, so I hope that's actually the case. We shall see. I woke up 3 times last night worrying about whether that kick I just felt was the beginnings of a contraction. Silly I know, but when you're half asleep you think anything could happen. I'll let you all know what my experience is for sure!

I went in the same way as you. I wanted to see if I could "handle" the pain, but after laboring for a while, I needed some relief! I didn't feel like I was dying or anything, but knowing that I could be a lot more comfortable was really enticing. Why go through all that when you can basically breeze through it (well maybe that's exaggerating ;)). The post partum recovery is bad enough (in case no one has warned you yet--that in itself can almost hurt more). Might as well make the labor as easy as possible. I fell asleep in between contractions when I was pushing Samantha. With Ryan the epidural ended up speeding the whole labor up, so don't believe if you hear that it always slows labor down. Both my kids were epidural babies. I don't regret it ;). No need to be Super Woman. Your kid will turn out fine.
ReplyDeletethanks for the encouragement Victoria!
